Special effects have come a long way since then. Today’s movies are chock full of CGI, and as the cost of special effects software suites has gone down their use has exploded, giving technical artists a chance to shine in new ways that they couldn’t have envisioned before. The new Star Wars films use more CGI “sets” than real sets. There’s a Millennium Falcon, of course, but everything in space around it is a CGI set. This is good for movies with good storytelling vibes, but even bad movies can benefit.
