The final image is of little Tommy Jarvis (Corey Feldman) opening his eyes: a horror movie trope signifying the evil will continue on. And it does, just not in the way intimated.

You see, despite moving across the country, changing his name to Edgar Frog, and becoming a comic book guy, all narrowing his chances of being noticed by anyone, Corey Haim finds and befriends poor little Tommy, becoming his constant companion like HPV after going backstage at a Ratt concert.

Like so many industries, filmmakers are in a mad rush to get their ideas out to the public first. The Halloween franchise beat Friday the 13th to the screen by two years because June didn’t have a Friday the 13th until 1980—whereas every year has a Halloween. Granted, Sean Cunningham could have thrown up his hands and put out his film with any old crap in it, but it’s the precision of the details that make all the difference in these low-budget horror films.
